Lehigh Valley Green Builders

2005

  • Organization founded as the Lehigh Valley Green Builders Forum (LVGBF) by Bruce Wilson (President) and Annie Prince.

2006

  • April 21, 2006 - LVGBF holds its first public event with a green building tour of PPL Plaza, attended by over 50 people, followed by a reception at the Clarion Hotel, Allentown, PA.
  • August 25, 2006 - Tour of The Eastonian, a green adaptive reuse of a former hotel into luxury condominiums in downtown Easton.
  • September 22-23, 2006 - Staffed our own booth and produced two days of presentations in our own Green Building Tent at the PA Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Festival in Kempton, PA, co-sponsored by the Delaware Valley Green Building Council and the Green Building Association of Central PA. The event was attended by over 6,000 people.
  • October 25, 2006 - Hosted a LEED® NC Training session at the Southside Comfort Suites, Bethlehem, PA. Partnering with the DVGBC.
  • December 6, 2006 - Incorporated with the State of Pennsylvania as a Non-Profit Corporation.

2007

  • January, 2007 - An article was published in Lehigh Valley Living Magazine about Green Building and the LVGBF, featuring our co-founders, Bruce Wilson and Annie Prince, and one of the LVGBF’s Founding Members, studio26 homes.
  • February 1, 2007 – Hosted “How to build a Net-Zero Energy Home” by Jackie O'Neil, at the Lehigh Cement Office. Fogelsville, PA.
  • February 5, 2007 – Hosted “Integrated Design and Value Engineering in Green Building” by Bruce Wilson, speaking about the benefits of green building and how to use integrated design to build a high-performance green building. Rauch Business Center, Lehigh University.
  • March 16, 2007 – Participated in a Green Building Tour of the Muhlenberg College New Science Building, Location, Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew Street, Allentown, PA.
  • Earth Day, 2007 – Hosted a successful month of Earth Day presentations around the Lehigh Valley with the educational theme, "Green Solutions to Storm Water Management" featuring displays on Pervious Concrete and Green Roofs, including a new display on "How to determine your Carbon Footprint".
  • April 14, 2007 – Participated in the Step It Up Festival for Action on Climate Change on the Southside of Bethlehem, organized by Clothesline Organics and Home & Planet retail shops.
  • April 17-20, 2007 – Participated in the City of Bethlehem Earth Day Education Week, where 1700 students from the Bethlehem Area School District visited our booth for a presentation on how Green Building helps Planet Earth.
  • April 18, 2007 – Co-sponsored "Beyond Climate Change", a presentation by Dr. Thomas Pritchett at the UU Church in Bethlehem.
  • April 25, 2007 - Co-sponsored a presentation by Lance Simmens, Asst. to the Governor of PA, with a slide show on "An Inconvenient Truth" hosted by the Mayor of Bethlehem, John Callahan, at Foy Concert Hall, Moravian College.
  • May 6, 2007 – Participated in the EnviroVillage at the RiverFusion festival at Illicks Mill in Bethlehem (www.illicksmill.org/riverfusion.html) where visitors learned about the availability and application of green building materials, such as green roofs, durable roofing shingles made from recycled rubber, pervious concrete, and recycled glass countertop surfaces.
  • May 15, 2007 - Co-sponsored the presentation, ‘Signs of Hope, What We Are Doing About Climate Change’ at the Unitarian Universalist Church.
  • May 18, 2007 - Presented and demonstrated innovative storm water management to the PIX network (lvpix.org) of Lehigh Valley municipalities, businesses, regulators and environmental organizations at the PIX Storm Water Management Symposium at Bethlehem City Hall.
  • September 21, 2007 - Participated in Education Day at the PA Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Festival in Kempton, PA.
  • September 22-23, 2007 - Presented two days of programs at the Green Building Tent at the PA Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Festival, Kempton, PA. Cosponsored by the GBACPA and the DVGBC.
  • September 27-28, 2007 – LVGBF President, Bruce Wilson attended the Pennsylvania Green Growth Partnership First Annual Forum at the Hershey Lodge representing the Lehigh Valley Green Builders Forum.
  • October 1, 2007 – Presented to members at a monthly meeting of the Lehigh Valley Builders Association about the future of Green Home Building sighting performance data from the ongoing study of Buffalo Homes.
  • October 6, 2007 – We were proud to help organize three houses on the National Solar in conjunction with the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) www.nesea.org and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) www.ases.org:
    • studio26 homes – PA’s first LEED-Silver Certified Home www.studio26homes.com.
    • Joris Rosse – Converted barn, which houses his residence and the Morning Star Center.
    • Walter Udell – 5000 SF Buffalo Home with extremely low energy bills for both heat and hot water amounting to about 900 gallons of heating oil a year.
  • October 17, 2007 – Hosted the LVGBF’s Annual Members Dinner, Comfort Suites, South Bethlehem.
  • October 31-November 1, 2007 – Participated in a workshop, “Balancing Energy and the Environment, an Exploration of Future Research Needs”, at Lehigh University speaking on Energy Use in Buildings.
  • November 16, 2007 – Four member firms of the LVGBF participated in a design charette for the E House project of the Alliance for Sustainable Communities.
